According to Vogue.com, this year’s 2019 MET Gala theme “Camp: Notes on Fashion,“ is based on Susan Songtag’s 1964 essay, “Notes on Camp“. In her essay Songtag writes, “The essence of Camp is its love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.” How fitting for the 70th Metropolitan’s Museum of fundraising gala. Occurring annually, on the first Monday in May, the gala celebrates the opening of the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition.
