Great Performances - NAS is Illmatic
Queen's finest, Nas and PBS's Great Performances celebrated one of
Hip-Hop's extraordinary albums, Illmatic, on stage with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
Nas moved sequentially through
the album with video clips of him at the genesis of his Rap career inserted in between. Minds were
blown after the 53 minute collaboration completed. The concert blended the lyrical
finesse of Hip Hop royalty together with one of the nation’s finest orchestras.
Illmatic was born for this.
Fun fact: Two-time Grammy award winning bassist Derrick Hodge, well known in the Jazz scene,
arranged The World Is Yours, Halftime, One Love, Represent, and The Genesis.
View the concert here until March 2.
